Part I
Over the last 10 years, I have studied my community, the Black Community, from a statistical point of view on things that I thought just mattered to me. As stated in other posts, I was looking for answers for why I am the way I am. But what I found, really should matter to everyone. I believe what we are seeing today, is the conclusion I did not want to face, but are now tangibly here on the ground, in the streets, across the country and spreading to the rest of the world.
There are 1.5 billion people of African descent in the world today. Many of us share the same experiences. Our desire is to build our caring communities, explore and learn the world, nurture our loved ones, eat and drink well, worship, and leave strong legacies for our children’s children. And no matter the struggle, no matter the forces of evil around us, those goals and desires never change. There are times they are out of reach, not for any fault of our own. It is not in our DNA to abandon ship, even if it there is only one loss of life. We have empathy to save them all or to understand the impact of the loss.
The future has always been ours to architect. Our leaders have been killed or jailed that stopped our forward progress. Some how, we must write, record, tell the vision in its entirety, so that even if leaders are incapacitated, those that follow can continue on from generation to generation.
